Historique :	Oeuvre exécuté en 1950-1951, par l'atelier Hamot, Aubusson, d'après les cartons de Roger Bezombes (1913-1994). Variante d'une composition dont Bezombes livra, sous le titre l'Afrique noire, un carton aux Gobelins en février 1943 (non tissé). Cette scène, à priori plus réelle que légendaire, serait celle désignée sous le nom du Moro Naba 'Roi des Mossis, l'ethnie dominante du Burkina Faso, personnage qui inspira de nombreux peintres africanistes. Bien que la palette de l'auteur des cartons aille vers l'abstraction, la jeune femme, à la peau plus claire, est peut-être une étrangère.
