Description :	Thomas Beckett est à l'autel lorsque des hommes armés et empanachés se jettent sur lui. L'enfant de choeur, frappé de terreur, cherche à s'enfuir.

Historique :	Nous reconnaissons dans ce tableau, attribué sans raison par les inventaires de la fin du 19e siècle à Vincent, l'oeuvre de J.-B. Pierre, exposée au Salon de 1748 (n°38), qui ornait avant la Révolution l'église Saint-Louis du Louvre. Mentionnée dans l'état des tableaux se trouvant au dépôt des Petits-Augustins en 1795, sous le n°95, cette peinture est transférée au dépôt de Nesle en 1797 et figure dans les archives du musée du Louvre sur la liste des tableaux attribués à l'abbaye aux Bois par le décret du 15 février 1811. Elle passa à Notre-Dame-des-Champs lors de la disparition de cet établissement.
