Historique :	Ce tableau provient de l'église de Saint-Jacques-la-Boucherie (dont il ne subsiste aujourd'hui que la tour Saint-Jacques). Quentin Varin (1575-1627). Selon Piganiol de la Force, il aurait été peint par Quentin Varin au début de son séjour à Paris, alors qu'il était logé chez un marguillier de la paroisse ; ce serait donc une oeuvre de jeunesse, antérieure à la Présentation de Jésus au Temple, qui orne le maître-autel de la chapelle des Carmes.
